About Me
Hi there! I’m Alissa Murray. Welcome to my website.
I am a sustainability advocate and practitioner, writer, and a continual student of the world and its myriad languages and cultures.
My career has spanned many fields over the years, and my multi-disciplinary background includes physics, visual art, environmental science, nonprofit management, and creative writing, among others.
My work currently focuses on the development and management of grant-funded sustainable development projects, with a specific focus on water, sanitation, and hygiene. These projects are primarily based in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
I previously served as the Director, Program Operations of The Sustainability Laboratory, a nonprofit research, development, and education organization focused on advancing a transformative, global sustainability agenda. I have also worked as an environmental scientist at environmental engineering and consulting firms.
I am the founder, content creator, editor, and designer of In Locamotion, a travel blog dedicated to the intersection of travel with sustainability and social justice. I am also a Senior Advisor to the RISE Travel Institute.
My long-term vision and plan is to advance sustainability on a global scale.
In my free time I enjoy dancing, traveling, language learning, and tough hikes with phenomenal views.
